Ronnie came to the United States in 2007 and took a Bachelor’s degree in Physics at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. While at St. Olaf, he learned of a music scholarship opportunity. At his audition, he played a grand piano in a concert hall for the very first time. “It was so beautiful, and so different… it was like a whole new kind of instrument!” Afterwards, he worked as a tutor with a community of Burmese refugees in Indianapolis.
With no access to piano, Ronnie had to find ways to find the instrument. “I didn’t have access to an instrument, so I pretended I was a music student in order to use the practice rooms at the University of Indianapolis.” That love of playing great pianos led Ronnie to earn his master’s degree in piano performance in Western Michigan University under the tutelage of Lori Sims. Ronnie joined the Unity staff in 2017.
